Amazon to Build New Cross-Dock Facility in Mississippi

Amazon plans to open a 930,000-square-foot inbound cross-dock facility in Marshall County, Mississippi, within the next three years. Located in Chickasaw Trails Industrial Park, the facility will consolidate products from vendors before shipping them to Amazon’s regional fulfillment centers. It’s positioned near key transportation hubs, including the Port of Memphis, Memphis International Airport, and BNSF Railway, enabling efficient distribution.
The project is expected to create over 1,000 jobs and expands Amazon’s existing network of 61 active inbound cross-dock facilities across the U.S., with 13 more in development. The new facility aims to address capacity constraints and shipping delays experienced last year, primarily on the West Coast, which led Amazon to reroute shipments and encourage vendors to ship to alternative locations.
Amazon’s recent supply chain challenges have spurred efforts to overhaul inbound logistics, focusing on regional inventory placement. CEO Andy Jassy noted that these initiatives are already improving how inventory is distributed, bringing more products closer to customers and boosting delivery efficiency.
