Arkas Line Doubles Capacity on Turkey-U.S. Route

By Ken Miller, Editor & Senior Journalist

Arkas Line has announced the addition of a second vessel to its USA Express Service (USX), a vital route connecting Turkey to the U.S. East Coast. This strategic move effectively doubles the line’s capacity, reflecting growing demand for trade between Turkey and the United States and Arkas’s expanding role in the transatlantic shipping market.

Currently, two ships operate on the USX: the Sine A, with a capacity of 2,824 TEU, and the Emma A, which also has a 2,824 TEU capacity. The Emma A has been upgraded with a scrubber system to reduce emissions and align with industry efforts to improve environmental sustainability.

The USX port rotation includes key Turkish ports—Mersin, Istanbul/Kumport, Izmit/Evyap, Gemlik/Gemport, and Izmir/Aliaga—before crossing the Atlantic to serve U.S. ports in New York, Norfolk, and Savannah. The route supports vital trade flows in textiles, automotive parts, and other goods, reinforcing Turkey’s growing economic ties with the United States.

Founded in 2004, Arkas Line has built a strong regional presence, focusing on short- and medium-haul routes across the Mediterranean, Black Sea, and North Atlantic. The company has made significant investments in environmentally friendly ships, including vessels equipped with scrubbers and emissions-reduction technology, to meet stricter global regulations and customer demand for greener logistics solutions.

This capacity expansion underscores Arkas’s confidence in the Turkey-U.S. trade corridor, which has experienced steady growth despite broader economic uncertainties. The addition of the Emma A not only increases capacity but also demonstrates Arkas’s commitment to sustainability as it continues to evolve with industry standards and customer expectations.
