Davis Celebrates Close Victory on Hickory Motor Speedway

Hickory, NC – In the 2nd race of the American Big Rig Racing Series 2024, Marshall Davis won a hard fought battle against Mike Morgan, who caught up from behind, starting the race in last place, after the teams decided to invert starting positions after qualifying.

It was Davis’ first win of the year, with #46 Nicholas Black winning ‘The Battle of Salem‘, the weekend prior.

Qualifying

#88 Mike Morgan and his Mackvader dominated the qualifying with a lap time of 20.754 seconds, on the 0.363 mile long Hickory Motor Speedway.

#46 Nicholas Black came in 2nd, with #3 Alan Boles on 3rd.

#4 Scott Treadway finished the qualifying in 4th position, with #20 Jameson Gibson on 5th and #51 Luke Withmire on 5th.

The ladder half of the starting grid was as follows:

6th place: #9 Jordan Cantrell 

7th: # 41 Marshall Davis

8th: #21 Nick Black

But to make the race an even bigger challenge, the teams decided to invert starting positions for the feature race.

Heat Race Group 1

#88 Morgan starting on pole, celebrated a start-to-finish. victory. After #46 Nicholas Black hit a wall at the end of Lap 9, he fell back to last place. #4 Treadway and #3 Boles switched positions, to complete the podium. Any attempts from Treadway to challenge Morgan for 1st fell short.

Heat Race Group 2

In the second group, #9 Jordan Cantrell started and finished in 1st, with #41 Davis starting and ending the race on 2nd. Third place was more contested, as #01 Chris Kikelhan, who did not participate in the qualifying, was moving up the field,  overtaking #21 Nick Black (who hit the wall at the same sport as his son) and #16 Eli Owens, who finished 4th and 5th. #00 Adam Neely started and ended the race on last place.

Feature Race:

Starting the race in 9th place, #41 Marshall Davis took 1st, with Mike Morgan in #88 battling his way up the field, all the way up to 2nd. With a lot of technical defects, #3 Allen Boles completed the podium on 3rd, in a difficult race that saw only five of twelve trucks finish.
