Houston, TX, Oct. 3rd 2024 –The recent strike involving tens of thousands of dockworkers along the East and Gulf coasts has been resolved. The International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance, which represents ocean carriers and port operators, have reached a tentative wage agreement.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the new deal includes a 62% wage increase over a six-year period. The union initially aimed for a 77% raise within the same timeframe, while just a day prior to the strike, companies had proposed nearly a 50% increase.
Additionally, the parties have agreed to extend the current contract until January 15, 2025. During this period, they will reconvene to address other unresolved issues, including the union’s request for a ban on automation at the ports.
