EPA Administrator Announces Reassessment of Greenhouse Gas Standards and Clean Trucks Plan

Washington D.C. – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin has announced that the agency will reconsider the greenhouse gas standards for Model Year 2027 and later vehicles. This review will also include an assessment of the Biden administration’s Clean Trucks Plan, particularly the 2022 heavy-duty nitrogen oxide (NOx) rule.

In a statement released on March 12, Zeldin highlighted the significant financial implications of these regulations, asserting that they impose over $700 billion in compliance costs and contribute to increased consumer prices for goods transported by trucks.

“As we reconsider nearly one trillion dollars of regulatory costs, we will abide by the rule of law to protect consumer choice and the environment,” he emphasized.

This move reflects an ongoing debate over the balance between regulatory measures aimed at reducing emissions and the economic impacts on industries and consumers.
