OOCL Line Sees Robust Q1 Growth Amid Tariff Uncertainties

In the first quarter of 2025, Orient Overseas Container Line (OOL) achieved revenues of $2.3 billion, marking a 17% increase compared to the same period last year. The COSCO-owned container line reported a 9% rise in total lifting, reaching 1.96 million TEUs, while loadable capacity grew by 8.5%.
Additionally, the overall load factor improved by 0.6% compared to Q1 2024, and the average revenue per TEU increased by 6.9% year-on-year.
As OOL heads into Q2, the newly imposed tariffs are likely to create significant challenges for the shipping industry. While the potential for increased costs and demand fluctuations looms, OOL’s strong Q1 performance may provide a solid foundation for navigating these hurdles. The company will need to adapt quickly to the evolving landscape to maintain its growth trajectory amidst these uncertainties.
