President Trump to Sign Executive Order Requiring English Proficiency for U.S. Truck Drivers

President Donald Trump is scheduled to sign an executive order on Monday that mandates all commercial truck drivers in the United States must demonstrate proficiency in English.

According to a White House document obtained by Breitbart News, the order underscores that English language skills are a “non-negotiable safety requirement” for professional drivers.

The order emphasizes that truckers must be able to read and understand traffic signs, communicate effectively with traffic safety officers, border patrol agents, agricultural checkpoints, and cargo weight-limit stations, as well as provide and receive feedback and directions—all in English. The goal is to enhance safety standards across the industry.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will oversee the implementation, review, and enforcement of this new mandate. While there has been a federal standard for English proficiency in place previously, officials acknowledge that enforcement has been inconsistent. This order aims to establish clearer protocols and stricter oversight.

Under the new guidelines, Duffy and the Department of Transportation will have the authority to remove drivers from service if they fail to meet the English language requirements. They will also work on refining procedures for issuing and verifying commercial driver’s licenses to ensure compliance.

This move reflects ongoing efforts by the administration to improve safety standards and reduce accidents related to language barriers within the trucking industry.
