Regulatory alert: ITA opposes electric truck mandate at Pollution Control Board.

by Matthew Hart, Executive Director, Illinois Trucking Association

Today, the Illinois Trucking Association submitted our testimony with the Illinois Pollution Control Board (PCB) in opposition to a proposal that will mandate the California Air Resource Board’s Advanced Clean Truck (ACT) regulation: a mandate for Electric Trucks.

In short, if this proposal was adopted and ACT was enforced in Illinois, our truck dealers would be required to sell Electric Trucks in Illinois, including a mandate that would require up to 20% of new truck sales that would have to be electric by Model Year 2028. Truck dealers in surrounding states would not be required to meet this mandate.

Last year, ITA led a coalition of business organizations who are opposed to California Emission mandates that were pushed in the legislature. After successfully defeating those legislative efforts, a small number of environmental group turned to the regulatory process to try and mandate California Emissions through the Illinois Pollution Control Board. ITA has been active in the PCB process and we are gearing up for the next hearing in March. Testimony for the March hearing was due today.

Click on the link below to read ITA’s testimony that was submitted today. This sets the stage for a hearing March 10-12 during which ITA will testify before the Illinois Pollution Control Board. ITA would like to thank the American Trucking Associations for assisting with our testimony. ITA members will have the opportunity to submit their own comments when the PCB hears written and/or oral comments during the March hearing. We will provide additional details soon about how you can make your voice heard.

The Illinois Trucking Association will continue to fight for the trucking industry, whether it is at the State Capitol Building or at the Pollution Control Board, ITA is fighting for you. If you have any questions, please contact me at matt@iltrucking.org
