Trucking and 3PL Companies Report Layoffs Amid Industry Challenges

The logistics and trucking sectors are facing significant workforce reductions as several companies announce layoffs.

DHL Supply Chain has disclosed plans to close its facility in Union City, Georgia, resulting in the layoff of 614 employees. According to a state filing, the job reductions will begin on April 6. The company has not provided a specific reason for the facility’s closure, which is located near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

In Riverside, California, Smart & Final Logistics is cutting 217 workers from its logistics warehouse operation. These layoffs are set to be finalized by April 21, with no reason given for the workforce reduction.

UPS, a major parcel carrier, is also making cuts by closing facilities in Maryland and Florida, leading to the elimination of 146 jobs.

Swiss logistics giant Kuehne + Nagel Inc. is closing two facilities, one in Illinois and another in California, resulting in 109 job cuts.

Additionally, other carriers such as SDK Logistics, 10 Roads Express, and Together Logistics LLC have also announced recent layoffs, further reflecting the ongoing challenges faced by the logistics industry.

These layoffs highlight a growing trend of workforce reductions within the sector, raising concerns about the overall stability of employment in logistics and transportation services.
