Women of Trucking Advisory Board Urges Congressional Action for Greater Inclusion
Washington D.C. — The Women of Trucking Advisory Board (WOTAB) is advocating for significant changes in the commercial motor vehicle (CMV) industry following the submission of its report to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
The report outlines essential conclusions and recommendations aimed at both government and private sector entities. It stresses the importance of amplifying women’s voices as the industry evolves, calling for diverse representation from women’s CMV associations in decision-making processes. The board highlights the need for increased female representation on governmental advisory boards and within various stakeholder engagement initiatives.
“There is a critical need across the CMV industry to recognize, promote, and encourage women to participate in all facets of transportation,” the report states. It specifically mentions the importance of including women from tribal nations, minority-owned businesses, younger drivers, and LGBTQ+ communities.
WOTAB urges the FMCSA to collaborate with the motorcoach sector and the broader CMV industry to create more opportunities for women. This includes efforts to eliminate barriers and enhance programs related to driver training, mentorship, and education. The report also calls for increased awareness among carriers and other industry stakeholders about the unique challenges faced by women, emphasizing the importance of allyship in fostering an inclusive environment.
